KIRA BURO is a visual artist and writer currently making things in so-called Vancouver, Canada. Their work is primarily a surreal, dream-like exploration of our shared emotional landscapes -- the feelings and worlds we create through relationships both to one another and all we are embedded within. They create illustrations, comics, and murals. Kira graduated from the Bachelor of Illustration program at Sheridan College in 2019, and is currently a member of the studio Space, where they are working on creating a large-scale body of work for their next gallery show. They can be found stretching by the shore of the ocean most days and nights.
The work on display here is a collection of pieces that came from subconscious rivers. There is a great power in this, I think, turning one's focus inward and beginning to unravel the strange languages of the body, of dreams, of poetry. What we are capable of extracting and projecting into the world we are creating alongside others is a special gift, a kind of connective tissue.
